Health literacy is of critical importance to genetic counseling practice due to the complexity and density of the words and concepts we use in daily practice. What are you doing to assess your clients' health literacy? Do you have a variety of patient education materials, intake forms, informed consent forms to accommodate the needs of your clients? How does health literacy impact your practice and what are you doing about it?

Please review this introduction to health literacy on the National Libraries of Medicine website: http://nnlm.gov/outreach/consumer/hlthlit.html  Then, spend more time exploring the resources that have been developed to help you deal with this issue.
