A Genetic Counseling Cultural Competence Toolkit

Language Access Resources
Cross Cultural Communication | Health Literacy | Multilingual Resources | Interpreters and Translators

Language access is a general concept that includes the people, services and documents that help make effective health care a reality for individuals whose first language is not English, or who are deaf, or whose health literacy is lacking. These resources include those related to interpreter training and resources, as well as medical and health care materials in other languages.

In this section of the toolkit, learn more about limited English proficiency, and review a sampling of resources and programs available to increase language access. There are separate sections of the toolkit on interpreters and translators, and multilingual resources.
